    Fragmentation d'agrégats de particules et de fibres en turbulence

    International audienceNous présentons ici les résultats de deux expériences de laboratoire relatives à l'agrégation de particules ou de fibres dans la zone inertielle de la turbulence. Dans les deux cas, des particules ou des fibres sont placées dans un écoulement de von Kármán dont l'intensité de la turbulence est modifiée par le taux de rotation des deux disques ailetés contra-rotatifs. Des traitements d'images à l'aide de deux ou d'une seule caméra vidéo permettent de décrire la formation des agrégats ainsi que leurs tailles. Des modèles théoriques sont finalement construits et comparés aux résultats expérimentaux. Abstract : We present here the main results of two laboratory experiments relating to the aggregation of particles or of fibers in the inertial range of turbulence. In both cases, particles or fibers are placed in a von Kármán flow whose turbulence intensity is modified by the rotation rate of the two counter-rotating bladed disks. Image processing using two or a single video camera is used to describe the formation of aggregates and determine their sizes. Theoretical models will eventually be constructed and compared to the experimental results

    A numerical study of fluorescent Pseudomonas strains isolated from three Lebanese spring waters

    A numerical analysis based on 161 phenotypic characteristics was performed with 58 strains of fluorescent pseudomonads isolated from 3 Lebanese spring waters, and 49 type or collection strains belonging or related to genus Pseudomonas. The data were analysed using the Dice similarity coefficient (SD) and the unweighted pair group algorithm with arithmetic averages. Eleven clusters (I to XI) were defined at the 72% similarity level. Clusters I, III to V, and VIII were further divided into 14 subclusters. Three subclusters: Vb (eight strains), Vd (seven strains) and Ve (nine strains), contained only strains isolated from the 3 Lebanese spring waters, without any type or collection strains. Genomic studies such as DNA/DNA hybridization and 16S rDNA sequence analysis will be necessary to specify the taxonomic status of these three groups within the genus Pseudomonas
